Icelanders enjoy freedom of religion as stated by the constitution; however, church and state are not separated and the Church of Iceland, a Lutheran body, is the state church.

One has to be Icelandic to fully understand the appeal of Studmenn (aka Funmen), who have often been called "the band of all Icelanders," and rightfully so.
The silly comedy certainly hit the jackpot, as half the Icelandic population went to the theaters and came out singing the hummable tunes that have lived in the soul of the nation since.

It is the goal of our Icelandic Society of Nova Scotia to locate descendants and to uncover pictures, diaries, and other accounts relating to the courageous pioneers who settled in Nova Scotia, and to preserve their stories.
His memories of Iceland are vague (he was 9 when he left) so, as Daisy L. Neijman states in her book "The Icelandic Voices in Canadian Letters", (Carleton University Press 1997), his experience was "more coloured by childhood enthusiasm and optimism than that of his old compatriots" (p.146).
The Icelandic Memorial Society of Nova Scotia is indebted to this remarkable older citizen, Jon Rognvaldsson.

The Icelanders have come up with a solution that delights children: school is closed for two weeks, and the children rescue the puffins confused by city lights, and release them to the sea.
