The 26th Infantry Division was moved into Luxembourg on 20 December 1944 and attacked in the Rambrouch-Vacinity and cleared Arsdorf from 22 -25 December 1944.

The emergency ration which in 1922 had been replaced by the reserve ration, was incorporated in the field ration, and later it became field ration D. AR 30-2210, 15 March 1940, lists in place of the reserve ration, the Filipino ration.
Listed also in Change 10 of AR 30-2210 is the newer ration developed for the Air Force, known as the flight ration.
This ration is prescribed for in-flight feeding of personnel on aircraft, who are expected to participate in flights in excess of 3 hours at a specified or subsequent date, or for a definite period.

Finally, the division of supply responsibilities between the Supply Division (G-4) and the Office of the Under Secretary of War—with requirements and distribution assigned to the former and procurement to the latter—was breaking down under the pressure of mobilization.
While numerically inferior to the defenders, the invading force of two divisions with supporting units was well trained and equipped and enjoyed complete mastery of the air and on the sea.
In January reinforcements were sent to Iceland and a token force to Northern Ireland, and by June two full divisions (the 34th Infantry and the 1st Armored) had reached Ireland, while the remainder of the 5th Infantry had arrived in Iceland, completing the relief of the U.S. Marine brigade and most of the British garrison.

The division trained at Shillong and Ranchi for a deep penetration role until the Infantry Committee, India, sitting from 1st to 14th June 1943, decided that, together with 14th Division, it would be given a training role to properly prepare units for active service in Burma.
It was redesignated as a Training Division on 14th June 1943 at Ranchi and Divisional HQ had moved to Saharanpur by 25th August, internal training started from 1st October and the first drafts from Regimental Centres arrived from 1st November.
Volume one concludes with an alphabetical listing of divisional commanders and artillery commanders (with ranks, positions, units, and dates served), all of whom are also shown separately under the appropriate divisions.

At the president's direction, the War Plans Division of the General Staff undertook this effort for the Army, working with the Navy staff, using appropriate assumptions of probable friends and enemies and conceivable theaters of operations.

Such units were not organic to divisions but were attached to them or to higher levels, the Corps and Armies.
The field and evacuation hospials (as titled) were very similar in their TO&Es and functions; both were located within the combat zone subject to enemy artillery fire.

He soon was called "Indian Joe." After his exploits in the Penn game on national radio, papers across the country carried the story and Indian Joe Bauer was widely known.
The USS Saratoga was scheduled to leave San Diego for Honolulu about 9 Dec. and so far we were not included on her passenger list.
Of course there will soon be more divisions for the forming of new squadrons but that still doesn't help our feelings in the matter.

Appendix I of David Fraser's And We Shall Shock Them - The British Army in the Second World War (ISBN 0-304-35233-0) lists each of the 48 British Divisions formed during the War and their theatre of active service with brief comment.
The list excludes Home Defence "County" Divisions as well as Colonial and Indian Army Divisions.
