 Chagos Islanders v. Attorney General
The Chagos islands, with Mauritius, were ceded by France to the Crown by the Treaty of Paris in 1814.
It was Chagos Agalega Company Limited and the subsequent management company, Moulinie & Co, which was responsible for reducing the number of workers, for recruitment and organising the transport of the workers and their dependants to Mauritius, Agalega and the Seychelles upon closure of the islands.
The list of issues was refined and the questions for the Court became generally expressed in terms of whether there was a reasonable prospect of the Claimants establishing the facts necessary for their claim or for defeating the Defendants' contention that the claims were statute barred.

 Chagos Archipelago Summary
The Chagos Archipelago (formerly called the Oil Islands) is a cluster of islands in the central Indian Ocean, administered by the United Kingdom, and having a total land area of 197square kilometers.
In 1971 the Chagos inhabitants, who are mainly French Creole in origin, were ordered to leave by the British government and most were resettled in Mauritius, where the archipelago had been administered.
The entire land area of the islands is a mere 60 km², with the largest island, Diego García, having an area of 27.20 km².

 [A-List] UK sub-imperialism: Diego Garcia
The judge acknowledged that some of the islanders had been "treated shamefully" when the British evicted them from their archipelago to pave the way for an American military base on Diego Garcia at the height of the Cold War.
But he said that their legal claims for compensation for personal injury suffered during their eviction and resettlement in Mauritius and Seychelles in the 1960s and 1970s were stale and were now time-barred.
The case followed a ruling in November 2000 in which two judges said that there was "no source of lawful authority" to justify the way that the inhabitants of the Chagos Islands were removed from their homes.

The natives, who happen to be fl, were forcibly evicted from their islands in the Indian Ocean in the 1960s at the request of the U.S., which leased Diego Garcia from the British to build an air base.
He replied that the judgment was not binding on him and that he was the one to decide whether we could be on the island or not.
But come to think of it, the islands are so lovely and there's so much to do that it's almost unthinkable that they should be wasted on natives who have nothing better to do than eat coconuts.

By the mid-1960s, Britain and the United States had coveted the Chagos Archipelago for some time—its isolated and strategic Indian Ocean location fit the Cold War militarization-mentality perfectly.  The allies considered no island more desirable than the archipelago’s largest, Diego Garcia.
Once control of the Chagos Islands was transferred to the UK and the native population had been removed, Britain and the United States began to build a joint Anglo-American military base on Diego Garcia.

One comment in the press statement on that island's proposed new reef is unintentionally saddening: 'Contrary to common belief, Singapore has natural reefs on its offshore islands.'
