Italian is the official language of Italy and is the most direct living descendant of Latin, the language of the Roman Empire.
Italian is fraught with regional dialects, which probably had their origins in regional differences which arose in spoken ("Vulgar") Latin in the latter days of the Roman Empire.
Because of influential writers from Florence like Dante and Petrarch, the Florentine dialect became the literary standard for Italian, and the modern, officially recognized Standard Italian which is presented on the Pimsleur tapes, is based on the old Florentine standard.

The author gives a brief overview of a topic or the state of a field, and then follows the essay with a detailed bibliography; examples are "La Questione della lingua," "Neoclassicismo," and "Dante." A short glossary and detailed table of contents are found in the back of the volume.
There is an alphabetic list of the articles; the longer entries are signed and followed by bibliographies.
This one-volume source, containing 400 signed entries, is meant to present Italian literature "from a contemporary perspective" and as it relates to other literatures and cultures.

Persuaded by the famed photographer Henri Cartier- Bresson, he switched almost completely from a reflex camera (Rolleiflex) to a viewfinder camera (Leica) and was able to produce images of everyday life taken at a moments notice.
A constant observer, List has described his desire as, "to capture the magic of all phenomena, so that the meaning behind will be revealed in the picture.

 ItalianAmericanWriters.com: Contemporary Italian American Writing
A semi-annual magazine, VIA is dedicated to Italian American literature and culture, and first appeared in Spring 1990 after the three editors found themselves with more than 200 pages of worthwhile creative works left over from their initial cooperative venture, an anthology, From the Margin: Writings in Italian Americana published by Purdue University Press.
Voices in Italian Americana has also devoted issues to Pietro Di Donato, author of the famed depression years novel, Christ in Concrete, celebrating the plight of immigrant laborers, and Jerre Mangione, novelist and author, with Ben Morreale, of La Storia: Five Centuries of the Italian in America, published in 1993 by Harper Collins.
He is past President of the American Italian Historical Association (1996-2000), and served as Vice President of the Italian Cultural Center in Stone Park, IL from 1992-1998.
