 Comparison of the Old and New Companies Acts |
Section 172 (1) of The Companies Act, 2004 prescribes that a private company must have at least one (1) director, while a public company must have no fewer than three (3) directors, at least two (2) of whom are not officers or employees of the company or any of its affiliates.
Companies will now be able to adopt pre-incorporation contracts (oral and/or written) that were made on their behalf provided that the contracts are adopted within a reasonable time after the company is incorporated.
Companies must add to the appropriate stated capital account, the full consideration received by the company on the issue of any of its shares.

Although there are not a lot of Jamaican entries there are enough that it warrants inclusion in a list of sources of family history, especially for those whose forebears were clergyman or school teachers.
It includes a list of slaves on Worthy Park estate in 1789, a record of conversations between two slaves and a missionary on the topic of marriage, and a list of the slave laws 1770-1817.
Besides the extensive listings of prominent men and women (mostly men), this book includes descriptions of Askzenasim and Sephardic synagogues and their paraphernalia, extracts of wills donating legacies to the synagogues and charitable institutions of the congregations as well as epitaphs and memorials in many of the places of burial of the Jews in Jamaica.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury today identified four companies associated with Jamaican national, Leebert Ramcharan, who was named by President Bush as a drug kingpin on June 1, 2004.
The companies were added to the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control's (OFAC) list of persons designated pursuant to the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act (Kingpin Act).
The companies designated today are the Caribbean Beach Park, Caribbean Showplace Ltd, Ramcharan Brothers Ltd and Ramcharan Ltd. Today's action prohibits all financial and commercial transactions between the designated entities and any U.S. person and freezes any assets found in the United States.

The blend is governed by Japanese regulations and must contain at least 30% of Jamaican coffee once the Blue Mountain name is used.
The Japanese companies are now forced to use Blue Mountain in their blends with Colombian and Brazilian coffee due to the shortage.
