Today, the number of Japanese who appreciate noh proper is far smaller than that of those who favor kabuki, but those kabuki plays adapted from or inspired by noh plays enjoy a wide popularity and constitute an essential portion of the entire kabuki repertoire.
Those writers were fully aware of the characteristic strengths and weaknesses of the individual actors as well as their dramatic taste in performance, and they took unusual pains to write plays capable of bringing out the superior talent of these actors.
It is noteworthy that much of the dramatic technique in a kabuki performance is not what the contemporary actors have acquired by themselves, but is the fruit of accumulated efforts contributed by their ancestors for many generations back, and handed down to them by the principle of family inheritance.

In Japanese mythology, the oni is usually depicted as a fearsome creature that is gigantic in size, has a tendancy to get angry easily, has horns on its head, and may or may not possess other "monster" like features such as multiple eyes or fangs.
In the Japanese culture it also carries a derogatory meaning, in the context of being someone with no real social or personal life outside of the object of their obsession (much like the term "fanboy" or "nerd" in Western culture).

One advantage of Japanese heraldry (although that advantage is perhaps offset by its very nature) is the number of “new” charges.
At left, for one example, is a Japanese carriage wheel (in Japanese heraldic terms, a “kuruma.”) In terms of stylist convention, it could just be blazoned as a wagon wheel, and the detail could be considered artistic license.
As Japanese enclosures are set in their shape, unlike the European bordure which must by default conform to the line of the field, it would be best to stop calling them “bordures.” Granted, we submit and register badges on roundels; but are they restricted to round representation?

Japanese director Akira Kurosawa concentrates on evoking the vast remoteness of the Siberian wilderness, a world the Russian finds forbidding but one in which the hunter is perfectly at home.
Directed by Abel Gance, the episodic narrative is heavily melodramatic, yet the sheer exhuberance of the actors and the monumental staging of the action carry viewers along in richly visual experience made memorable by Gance's innovative use of portable cameras and triple screens.
