Japanese warships were named according to their warrior tradition of "aestheticized violence" (explained in detail by "Zen and the Art of Divebombing" (http://www.friesian.com/divebomb.htm)), which looked upon combat as a work of (martial) art.

Project Numbers were used only within Russia (a complete list can be found at http://www.warships1.com/Russian_projects1.htm); foreign powers assigned their own class names for identification; surface ships were given Russian-sounding (often nonsense) names beginning with "K" (Kashin, Krivak, Kresta, Kynda, Kola) and submarines names from the American phonetic alphabet (Foxtrot, Victor, Yankee, Alfa).

Dive Micronesia Scuba Diving :: CYBER DIVER :: Dive Travel Guide
Micronesia is remote, relatively unspoiled (with the exception of Guam, which is overdeveloped and overrun by Japanese package tour groups) and offers divers a spectacular diversity of marine habitats from the walls of Palau to the wrecks of Truk Lagoon.
Guam: Hordes of Japanese package golf tour groups, karaoke bars, pistol shooting ranges, polluted beaches, dead reefs and hip-hop, bad-ass locals in souped up American pick-up trucks persuade discriminating dive travelers to move on as quickly as possible.
With most of Japan's WWII fleet on the bottom of the lagoon, Truk is unarguably the world's ultimate wreck diving destination (Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands is extremely overrated by tech diving industry types who have a vested interest in promoting deep diving destinations).

Compare that to the immediate deaths of 100,000 Japanese (and/or the 300,000 long term deaths), the numbers fall on the humane side: immediately kill 1% to save the other 99%, while appalling to consider out of context, in context is a fair trade.
After the human side of the equation is considered, also think about what the loss of an additional 10-15 times the number of people would have done to the Japanese changes of recovery as wells as the overall stability of that region.
