A few Group Sounds bands imitated their Anglo heros, including The Golden Cups, The Tempters, The Mops, The Dynamites and Jacks, whose "Karappo No Sekai" and "Marianne" were two of the first psychedelic recordings from the country.
A fringe movement from the late 1980s in Japanese alternative rock took the form of noise rock, a sound popularised by bands such as Boredoms.

Japanese stores typically divide their music into 4 sections: J-pop, Enka (a traditional form of ballad), classical, and English/International.
J-Hiphop/rock bands such as ORANGE RANGE and Ketsumeishi are at the top of the Oricon charts, with some older pop/rock groups like Mr.Children, B'z and Southern All Stars.
The current charts are mainly ruled by male only bands and solo male singers, female pop has declined a lot since the 90's but pop singers like Hamasaki Ayumi and Otsuka Ai still get to #1 with most of their releases.

Unsurprisingly, rock en Español got its initial start in countries with the closest ties to the United States or Europe, namely Mexico, Argentina, and Spain.
However, until then, rock en Español — with its often ferocious, soccer game-style live shows, musicians who can skillfully play both sides of the rhythmic border, and lyrics honed by culturally divergent situations — proves that rock's innate spirit doesn't talk only in English and can speak to everyone.
Finally, rock en Español is as diverse as its English counterpart.
