Superheroes most often appear in comic books, and superhero stories are the dominant genre of American comic books, to the point that the terms "superhero" and "comic book character" are often used synonymously.
Many of the earliest superheroes, such as The Sandman and The Clock, were rooted in the pulp fiction of their predecessors.
By the early 1970s, the return of the superhero genre, the rise of television as the top medium for light entertainment and the Comics Code Authority’s effect on grittier genres obliterated genres such as westerns, romance, horror, war and crime while the superhero genre underwent a revival.

Jewish day schools offer the best of both secular and religious education and many are non-denominational.
As the famed liberal attorney Alan Dershowitz has written many times, Jewish day school education is the key to Jewish continuity by giving world-class secular educations (much better than many public schools offer) and religious knowledge and values to be used in modern society.

Good to see that of the many Catholic superheroes, there is differentiation between the devout, like Nightcrawler, the apparently standard ones the ones that are actual or former clergy, and the lapsed.

UPDATE: Jacob Levy passes along this list of Jewish superheroes, and The Spoons Experience e-mails me a couple -- but if you check the list, you see that it proves my point.
Maybe that means that all the big -man superheroes are Jewish.
