		The Jordanian gunman who cut down a group of Ecuadorian pilgrims with automatic gunfire at the border crossing from Jordan to Israel north of Eilat on Wednesday, November 19, did much more than shatter the calm of a border terminal normally bustling with goods, tourist and business traffic between the Jewish state and Hashemite kingdom.
		The Jordanians, whose military intelligence is usually excellent when it comes to Muslim subversive activities, hadn’t a clue Al Qaeda had been running a recruitment network inside the kingdom through a small and relatively obscure organization called the Muslim Labor Party – a radical branch of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood.
		Jordanian Al Qaeda members were to strike the Mount Nevo pilgrimage site, the convents east of Jericho, the banks of the River Jordan that divides the West Bank from Jordan and Amman luxury hotels that were packed with Christian pilgrims and Israeli tourists.

		GENEVA (AP) — The list of 558 detainee names released by the Pentagon may provide some families with the first confirmation in four years that their relatives are being held at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, the international Red Cross said Thursday.
		The list had previously been accessible to the International Committee of the Red Cross, which is mandated by the Geneva Conventions to visit prisoners of war and is the only outside agency the United States allows to visit the Guantanamo detainees and check on their conditions.
		A Jordanian counterterrorism official, who is not allowed to be identified in line with standing security regulations, said the five Jordanians on the Pentagon list are not wanted for crimes in the Arab kingdom.

		He was sentenced to death in absentia by a Jordanian military court for the October 2002 assassination of a U.S. diplomat, Laurence Foley, in Amman.
		His group also is accused of previously trying to blow up the Radisson SAS in Amman as part of the so-called Millennium plot in 1999 and of the August attack at the Jordanian port of Aqaba.
		In Amman, a security official said authorities had tips on suspects who are being hunted, including possible sleeper cells or individuals who may have assisted the attackers and later fled in a vehicle bearing Iraqi license plates.

	140 Jordanians in Iraqi jails
		Government sources told al-Ra'i daily that the Iraqi ambassador in Amman has not clarified whether the list contained the names of all Jordanian prisoners in Iraqi custodies or a portion of them.
		The information was obtained after the Jordanian government pressed Iraq to disclose the conditions in which the prisoners live, following the execution of four Jordanians for smuggling car parts.
		The Iraqi ambassador also confirmed his government's position that it will not execute the fifth Jordanian who was sentenced to death for smuggling by an Iraqi court.

	Iraq delivered a list of 66 Jordanians jailed in Iraq
		Jordan's Foreign Ministry commenced reviewing the list with specialized authorities to complete the information and to continue communications with Iraq to investigate the prisoners' situations and to follow up on their cases, he added.
		He pointed out that it might be possible that some of those prisoners' sentences had ended and others might have been released.
