The ancestors of Creoles generally came to Louisiana directly from France or from the French colonies in the Caribbean and settled in New Orleans or in South Eastern Louisiana.
They settled in what is modern-day St. Bernard Parish, in the river passes east of the city, along an old mouth of the Mississippi River which they named Terre Aux Bouefs (literally "Land of the Cows" for the cattle living there).
While one would think that this would lead to a dramatic reduction in the amount of slavery in the state, this is not the case.

American Rivers, a Washington-based nonprofit conservation group, says the rivers on the list are not necessarily the ones with the worst chronic problems, but those they say are most in peril because of toxic chemicals, severe water shortages and other problems.

All of Louisiana is in the Gulf Coastal Plain.
Two additional widespread taxa, Argia fumipennis violacea and Arigomphus submedianus, are reported from west of the Mississippi River but not from the southeastern part of the state, even though they are found on the east side of the river in the northern part of their range.
In southeast Louisiana it is now often found at roadside borrow pits and ponds, mainly to the east and north of Baton Rouge.
