Diesel-mechanic locomotives are those that work just like a diesel car or lorry, they have a motor, gear box, etc. Their power is limited because the mechanical parts cannot stand even a thousand hp.
Until 1980, there were still modern diesel-hydraulic locomotives built for the Die Bahn in West Germany (three major series: the good old two- motored 220/221 (V200), the light 211/212 with one motor and the cab in the middle and the 215/216/217/218/219 with one motor/two cabs for mixed service).

The Ultimate B unit - American History Information Guide and Reference
A B unit, in railroad terminology, is a locomotive unit (generally a diesel locomotive) which does not have a driving cab, or crew compartment, and must therefore be controlled from another, coupled locomotive with a driving cab (an A unit).
Additionally, at first, railroads bought multiple-unit diesel locomotives as one for one replacements for steam locomotives; the flexibility of interchangeable units which could be assembled into any power output the railroad desired was not well realised.
When hood unit road switchers became the common kind of diesel locomotive, some B units were built, but many railroads soon came to the opinion that a cheaper B unit was not worth the lack of operational flexibility.

I have developed five versions which I submit here in the hope that list members might comment as to how they see the priorities and possibly clashes of compatibility with loco and appearance of the cars themselves.
Cars 1101 (general service) and 1102 (train-specific) are the most compatible with the solid stripe as it leaves the rear of the A or B diesel loco units.
Cars 1107 (general service) and 1108 (train-specific) give up on the idea of matching locomotive stripe width and height and placement, and do it the traditional way, solid contrasting white full window band on a solid fl body.
