		MTV started in New York City in 1981 and became available in most of the United States in the mid 1980s with the nationwide expansion of cable.
		MTV started off showing music videos nearly full-time, but as time passed they introduced a variety of other shows, including animated cartoons such as Beavis and Butthead and Daria, "reality" shows such as The Real World and Road Rules, prank/comedic shows such as The Tom Green Show, Buzzkill and Jackass, and sitcoms such as Undressed.
		Because of its visibility, MTV comes under scrutiny as an icon of crass commercialism, accused of denigrating the importance of music in the music industry, replacing it with a purely visual aesthetic, bereft of cultural resonance, and critical intelligence.

		MTV pre-history began in 1977, when Warner Cable (a division of Warner Communications and an ancestor of WASEC, Warner Satellite Entertainment Company) launched the first two-way interactive cable TV system, Qube, in Columbus, Ohio.
		MTV received a heavy load of criticism from the religious right in the 1980's and parent-media watchdog groups (such as the PMRC) over certain music videos had "graphic and sacrilegious imagery" of satanism and the devil.
		MTV also airs a series of pro-environmental ad spots entitled "Break The Addiction", as a way of encouraging their viewers to find ways to use less fossil fuels and energy.

		That did have some cool stuff but this show was more like one long form experimental video dealing with a particualr theme such as patriotism, love, apathy, revenge, etc. I fear the wiki's list is incomplete as none of those shows seem to be the one I seek.
		Well, if it was on MTV then it wasn't Night Flight, although the episodes sometimes started out with a half hour segment tied into one theme ("Take Off [whatever]").
		One show I remember was about, or featured, cryogenic suspension, and I remember a long, weird shot of something colourful exploding in slow motion while The Cure's Other Voices played in the background.
