Topic: List of Marxists

Talk:List of socialists - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Therefore individuals who might be socialists but who are not known as a result of that are not listed unless their socialism is of importance to their work or their espousal of socialism has become a source of interest in the individual.
Some of the listed individuals have been or were committed to other ideologies either before or after their identification with a socialist ideology.
I've not kept a list of those deleted from the list for the obvious reason that such individuals are not socialists.

Draft of an Article on Friedrich List's book by Karl Marx
Humble as is Herr List’s attitude to the nobility, the ancient ruling dynasties and the bureaucracy, he is to the same degree, audacious” in opposing French and English political economy, of which Smith is the protagonist, and which has cynically betrayed the secret of “wealth” and made impossible all illusions about its nature, tendency and movement.
Finally, it is characteristic of Herr List’s theory, as also of the entire German bourgeoisie, that in order to defend their desires to exploit they are compelled everywhere to resort to “socialist” phrases and thus forcibly to maintain a deception that has long been refuted.
List pretends that he is everywhere interested in productive forces for their own sake, quite apart from bad exchange values.

Unfortunately I am of the opinion that a "marxist" in the trade union is in fact a part of the vanguard and a tribune and transmission belt for the politics and the interests of the class as a whole.
But the duty of a "marxist" in the trade unions is to link these daily struggles to both a program and an anal isis of turning the workers against their *real* enemies and finally towards a desperate struggle to sieze all political power on the road to a better society.
But the "marxists" on this list say that they mean the workers are so backward and crazy that they think stuff like this comes from Mars and can't relate to it or some bullshit.

It was here, in 1938, that International Brigade members were subjected to a bizarre set of physical and psychological tests in one of the first systematic attempts to put psychiatry to the service of ideology.
Two men dressed in civilian clothes went through a long list of questions in a small office before the prisoners were taken outside.
The results, predictably concluding that Marxists really were mad, tell us more about the mindset of those who, with Franco at the helm, would run Spain for the next 40 years than about the British and other men at San Pedro de Cardena.

MARXISTS POLL: Suggested by Norm Geras's suggestion that a certain Russian revolutionary whose birthday it is was 'one of the top three Marxists of all time' (my Norm likes his rankings), as well as Norm's frequent surveys of his readers, I've decided to run a little poll for the top five Marxists of all time.
To clarify: by 'Marxists' I mean both theoreticians, and activists; both those who remained fairly close to Marx's own views, or what seem to be his views, and those who, while claiming to be Marxists, strayed very far indeed from his views (e.g.
Of course, some might say that making lists of one's favourite Marxists as opposed to the greatest ones is a silly, useless waste of times, a hoplessly subjective undertaking that ignores the primacy of historical effectiveness and celebrates a romantic, and thus unrealistic and unhistorical, view of human worth.

 Where Marxmail came from
Marxmail is descended from the first Marxism mailing list on the Internet, which was launched by the Spoons Collective in June or July of 1994, according to Professor Jon Beasley-Murray.
They had already created a number of mailing lists for the study of Lyotard, Deleuze-Guattari, Foucault, etc. and thought that it would make sense to add one for Marx since his name came up so often in discussions.
Soon the list began attracting former and current members or sympathizers of revolutionary organizations, and the topics began to have more of the character we are familiar with from Marxmail.
