State prisons are staffed by state governments and hold offenders convicted of state crimes.
People on parole have served time for their most recent offense and are released from prison before the official end of their sentence if it was believed (by the Parole Board) that they may be released to be supervised by a parole officer in the community.
Missouri State's Career Center, located in Carrington Hall, provides career and occupational information, individual and group career planning assistance, an opportunity to integrate academic study with off-campus employment, and job placement assistance to seniors, graduate students, and alumni.

Presents data for each State and the District of Columbia including the number of jail inmates, the incarceration rates, rated capacity, percent of capacity occupied on June 30, the number of jail employees, demographic characteristics of the staff, inmate-to-staff ratios, and changes since 1983 in these measures.
Focuses on prisoners whose probation or parole was revoked using data from the 1991 Survey of State Prison Inmates, and provides details on offenses, types of violations, time served on probation/parole, time expected to serve, guns, alcohol and drug use, and personal characteristics.
Presents information on the location of the State registries, number of offenders in the registries; their level of automation and capability to receive, store, and transmit fingerprints; whether DNA samples are included in registration procedures; and community notification procedures including use of the Internet to post information on registered offenders.

 More Prisons/Less Education
While statistics released by the Department of Corrections indicate that Missouri prisons are among the most overcrowded in the country, the endorsement for two new prisons by both Gov. Mel Carnahan and House Speaker Steve Gaw continues to face some opposition in the legislature.
Since Carnahan's proposal for a second prison became a contentious issue a few weeks ago, the Department of Corrections and the governor's office have floated a list of 18 cities and counties in Missouri who are interested in housing a new prison.

Exempts from state income tax the first six thousand dollars of public pension income and allows an additional state income tax deduction of up to six thousand dollars for public pension income.
HB 170 Froelker, James V. Increases the statute of limitations for contesting erroneously paid state taxes from one to three years, and requires interest to be paid on credits and refunds.
Disallows a state income tax deduction for retirement benefits to the extent the same are otherwise excluded or deducted from federal or Missouri adjusted gross income.
