Mortal Kombat Armageddon, the seventh game (Trilogy and Ultimate excluded) in the series of brutal fighters, is headed to home consoles later this year, and based on the Xbox version I was able to get some hands-on time with, promises to be the best yet.
Most of the characters were instantly recognizable, such as Sub-Zero who donned his classic blue ninja outfit, while others, such as Stryker, were unrecognizable at first thanks to their new modern looks.
The character models, much like the Kreate-a-fighter mode, are still being tweaked and tinkered with, so there was a noticeable lack of detail in each fighter.

Closer Look: Mortal Kombat: Deception - Gamewatcher Nintendo GameCube - allCube.com
Kombat creator Ed Boon can engage in whatever sort of mini-game mania he'd like: heck, throw Scorpion and Sub-Zero into tiny plastic balls and have them roll around collecting severed heads - Super Ninja Ball, anyone - as long as the chance was there to get multiplayer action, 24/7, whenever the mood strikes.
No Mortal Kombat would be a Mortal Kombat without its own backstory, and Deception is no exception: taking place after Deadly Alliance had villains Shang Tsung and Quan Chi tag-teaming the good guys, Deception introduces an antagonist who predates the entire Mortal Kombat saga, continuity-wise: the Dragon King, who poses a threat to everyone.
It's certainly not a list of features I would expect to be in a Mortal Kombat title, and the whole format of the package isn't something that you'll probably see other fighters adopt anytime soon, which does give it a unique status.
