First baseman Albert Pujols was awarded a Gold Glove for his defensive prowess for the first time in his six-year Major League career, and across the diamond, third baseman Scott Rolen's defense was gold-plated for the seventh time.
The idea of awarding Gold Gloves to the top fielders came in 1956 when Elmer Blasco, the Rawlings Sporting Goods public relations/sales manager, discovered during a Spring Training survey that 83 percent of the MLB regular players used Rawlings gloves or mitts.
A glove was crafted from the hide, laced and stamped as a regular fielder's glove, and attached to a metal fixture on a walnut base with an appropriate engraved plate.

I'd say the hitters win, as long as the offense is put together properly, and the gold glove team is made of guys who actually deserve the glove as opposed to guys who are pretty good hitters who just happen to play a decent defense.

I suspect his being passed over in that All Century team outfield was probably too much for anyone in good conscience to turn their head and look away.
His batting ability, especially against 20 game winners, is unequalled, as in his performance against Baltimore's four 20 game winners in the '71 World Series.
He could relinquish his all century outfield appointment to Clemente (we all know Rose was a prolific hitter...period) In short, I would like to ask Rose "Were you as good a ballplayer as Clemente?" His response would either show he's on the road to recovery or still in denial.
