The national historic sites component of Parks Canada is responsible for Canada's program of historical commemoration, which recognizes nationally significant places, persons and events.
Canada also has a program for designation and preservation of national historic sites.
This is now the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, a statutory advisory body to the Minister of the Environment and, through the Minister, to the government of Canada.
