According to the Census Bureau, as of 2003, the population of Nevada was 2,241,154.

The Owyhee River is a tributary of the Snake River, approximately 200 miles (320 km) long, in northern Nevada, southwestern Idaho and southeastern Oregon in the United States.
The watershed of the river was part of region inhabited by the Shoshone.
The river was named in 1826 for two Hawaiian employees of the Hudson's Bay Company who were killed by the Shoshone while undertaking a fur trapping expedition in the then-disputed Oregon Country.

The Walker River is a river in west central Nevada in the United States, approximately 50 mi (80 km) long.
It is formed in southern Lyon County, 7 mi (11 km) south of Yerington, by the confluence of the East Walker and West Walker rivers, both of which descend from snowmelt in the Sierras along the California-Nevada border.
It flows initially north past Yerington into central Lyon County, where it turns sharply to the southeast, flowing through the Walker River Indian Reservation past Schurz.

In its annual report, the national environmental group cited "excessive irrigation diversions and hydropower dams that are causing the ecological collapse of the river and its fisheries" for its prominent placement on the list.
The list reports "acute threats" to the listed rivers rather than their chronic problems; it is not a list of the nation's most polluted rivers.
Masten emphasized that if the problems of the river's current water management aren't addressed, the dramatic decline in coho salmon, a federal and state "endangered" species, will be followed by further declines in the rivers's fall chinooks, spring chinooks, steelhead and green sturgeon populations.

 Report says 40 streams, rivers polluted by mining
The creek, which flows more than 17 miles from Little Washoe Lake to the Truckee River, could be contaminated with mercury used at gold and silver mills operated in the area in the late 1800s.
Preliminary studies conducted by researchers from University of Nevada, Reno in 2000 found elevated levels of mercury in fish taken from the creek.
Among the rivers and streams called polluted by the organization are the north forks of the Humboldt and Little Humboldt rivers, Eight Mile Creek in the Quinn River drainage, and Birch Creek in the Toiyabe Mountains.
