Ohio, the region north of the Ohio River and south of the Great Lakes, was originally controlled by various native tribes, primarily the Iroquois at the time of European colonization.
Ohio's southern border is defined by the Ohio River (with the border being at the 1793 low-water mark on the north side of the river), and much of the northern border is defined by Lake Erie.
As of the 2000 census, the population of Ohio is 11,353,140.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to a Serbian father and Slovenian mother, Voinovich earned a B.A. in government from Ohio University in 1958 and a J.D. from the Ohio State University College of Law in 1961.
In 1978, Voinovich was elected lieutenant governor on the gubernatorial ticket with James A. Rhodes (the first Ohio lieutenant governor not to be elected separately from the governor) and he served as lieutenant governor of Ohio in 1979.

Ohio Citizen Action, which issued a detailed analysis of campaign contributions for the 1997-1998 election, said Will and other big donors were trying to buy access to Ohio's policymakers.
Yeomans said Ohio should consider placing a limit on the total contributions individuals can make in one year.
Ohio law limits individual donations to $2,500 per candidate per election cycle, but does not preclude an individual from donating $2,500 to numerous candidates.

The location for those hearings was abruptly moved to the Columbus City Council after, Judiciary sources told The BRAD BLOG, "republican leaders in Ohio got word of the meeting and denied the request for a room" in the state capitol building.
