Ottawa is the capital of Canada, located in the eastern part of the province of Ontario.
Ottawa is home to two major league sports team, the Ottawa Senators (established 1992) of the National Hockey League and the Ottawa Renegades of the Canadian Football League.
In 2001, the city of Ottawa was amalgamated with the suburbs of Nepean, Kanata, Gloucester, Rockcliffe Park, Vanier and Cumberland, and the rural townships of West Carleton, Osgoode, Rideau and Goulbourn, to become one municipality.

And I don't say that to belittle Ottawa, it's the point that one out of every five jobs in our city is still reliant upon government at the federal level and that is growing.

The mayors of Canada's biggest cities have unanimously approved a plan to prod the federal government to correct the fiscal imbalance they see between Ottawa and their municipalities.
Mayors of 22 cities met in Toronto on Wednesday to talk about the imbalance — echoing a chronic complaint of provincial governments in an era of federal budget surpluses — and about the role they want Ottawa to play in improving urban life.
The mayors, gathered in a meeting led by Toronto Mayor David Miller, say they are also looking for action on environmental protection, affordable housing, public safety and immigrant settlement.

The "Food Security in Ottawa: A Community Profile" report is a collaborative effort initiated by the Ottawa Food Security Group and the Region of Ottawa-Carleton Health Department in the fall of 2000 (before the amalgamation of Regional government into the new City of Ottawa in January 1, 2001).
The Social Planning Council of Ottawa and the Ottawa Food Security Group partnered to develop a mapping sub-committee to develop a series of maps for the "Food Security In Ottawa: A Community Profile" report.

Let me recount an incident that occurred while I was a graduate student at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario about eight or nine years ago.
I came across a cartoon in the display case of the Muslim Students Association in an underground tunnel near the university’s library.
To his side, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was depicted as a physician who told the soldier, “I’m listing your condition as battle hardened.” The cartoonist, Tom Toles, said the cartoon was in reference to Rumsfeld having rejected a Pentagon commissioned report that warned the Department of Defense that the military was too thinly stretched.
