Pennsylvania’s state park system is celebrating its centennial as one of the country’s largest and most popular recreational attractions.
In just one year, the CCC in Pennsylvania boasted one hundred and four camps, ninety-two of which were situated in state forests or parks; within two years, the total increased by nine to one hundred and thirteen camps.
To many, the creation of parks and recreational areas may seem to be a politically innocuous issue, but one burning question reverberated time and again throughout the halls and chambers of the state capitol during this period.

Near Wellsboro, PA, is "the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania." This is more north-central than eastern, but it's beautiful countryside and worth the trip.
There are plenty of other trails to hike in the park should you tire of the waterfalls.
I second Joe Schlabotnik's suggestion of Boulder Field in Hickory Run State Park is a beautiful place to climb around - I would heavily suggest nice sturdy boots, though, the rocks can get slippery or rugged.
