During the latter half of 1829 an extension of the railway from Stockton to an obscure village known as Middlesbrough, situated near the mouth of the River Tees, was proposed.
With great confidence the promoters of the new railway had announced that the line would be opened on Tuesday, September 27, and as early as half-past five in the morning hundreds of vehicles of all kinds were moving towards the railway.
Some of the proprietors of the railway and many others were strongly opposed to this, but the town of Stockton was some distance up the winding and narrow river, and vessels of small tonnage only could be accommodated.

Perth Boys’ School, founded in 1847 in the Courthouse that still exists behind Council House, opened on the 5 July 1830 nearly a year after the founding of the Colony, is one of the oldest schools in Australia.
As Perth became known in the “Old Country” as a desirable place to have land holdings and even to settle, there were many wealthy and influential families anxious to grab a little of the pickings in the growing settlement, perhaps to occupy an errant son or two.

Data shows that since 1975 rainfall in Perth and catchment areas has reduced about 10% and has become less variable without the extremes of wet and dry years seen pre-1975.
