Polish artists were influenced by developments in poster design taking place in the West and the ornamental and abstract influence can be seen in the work of Polish poster artists of that period.
He told me that that Polish authorities had considered these posters particularly subversive because of the suggestion of official violence and that the posters had to be smuggled out of the country in a fisherman's case and that the blood spatters had to be added abroad, perhaps in Italy.

Wednesday was a “Polish Day” and it started with the 7:00 pm Mass followed by a Novena to St. Anne and a coffee/cake reception on the parish grounds.
There have been repeated references to “Polish Death Camps” (most recently in the Boston Globe) to identify the camps that Nazi Germany built in Poland to carry out its genocidal policies.
It does not take away anything from the terrible fate of the Jews who comprised 90% of the victims at Auschwitz to note that the camp is also for Polish Christians the symbol of their national martyrdom at German hands.

The World Heritage Committee was informed of threats to the site caused by construction work being carried out, and, in 1996, urged Polish authorities to devise a plan for the preservation of the site and its immediate surroundings.
By 1997 the Polish Government had adopted the basic guidelines for a Strategic Government Programme (the Oswiecim Programme), aimed at a long-term and comprehensive development and management of the site which “fully recognises the need to protect and preserve its physical integrity and dignity”.
States Parties were urged to review their inventories and tentative lists to increase the representativity of cultural landscapes from eastern Europe on the World Heritage List.

Return to this website and the lists frequently since we are in the process of using volunteers and professional translators to identify 18th c places and their 19th c equivalent names.
In many later "Polish" records the a birth date was listed both ways (often occurring in two different months) and, depending on the year, there was about a two week difference between the two calendars.

Their attempt at portraying Islam as a sullen culture that lacks a sense of humor is part of the same discourse that claims “suicide martyrdom” as the highest goal for all true believers.

Early on, the Church allowed part or all of those penances to be lifted if a Christian awaiting martyrdom wrote a letter asking clemency on a penitent's behalf.
This softening of the official penance came to be called an "indulgence." As time went on, other practices and prayers also were accepted for the shortening of the canonical penace.
