Many sections of Sri Lankan opinion want an abolition of their presidency which is seen as autocratic and concentrating too much power in one individual.

Former Presidents of the United States, Bill Clinton (1993-2001) and George H.W.Bush(1989-1993) are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka during the weekend as part of their tour of South Asian nations hit by Tsunami, diplomatic sources in Colombo said.
President George W Bush appointed the ex-presidents to lead the effort in the US for raising private funds to help tsunami victims.
The report estimated that the direct loss for the whole of Sri Lanka due to tsunami is about US$1 billion (4.5% of the GDP), and that the financing needs for reconstruction is about US $1.5 billion.
