Prince Edward Island (simply PEI or P.E.I. French, l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard, Scottish Gaelic "Eilean a' Phrionnsa" or Eilean Eòin) is a Canadian province situated in the Maritimes.
Known as the "Garden Province", the island is located in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, east of New Brunswick and north of Nova Scotia from which it is separated by the Northumberland Strait.
Prince Edward Island is the first province in Canada to elect a Premier of non-European descent (Joseph Atallah Ghiz) in 1986.
