This list of place-names relating to the British Isles (excluding the Irish mainland) during the Roman period originated as part of an undergraduate dissertation submitted to the University of Lancaster in 1980 as part of my degree and has been extended by subsequent research into the nature and origins of the Ravenna Cosmography.
The format of the list is designed to give the ancient place-name in its best-attested form, a suggested identification and an indication of the source(s) from which the name is derived.
No attempt has been made to give each name a Latin nominative form where there is no evidence that such a form existed: in most of the sources, names are given in what appears to be a fossilised locative form, which has been used here.

Aballava is similarly placed on the Rudge Cup and the Amiens patera, without mention of Coggabata, as in the Ravenna Cosmography.
Q: Are we correct in assuming that the three artifacts list the forts in an east to west sequence?

The Itinerarium Antonini Augusti is the singular contemporary record of the Roman road network and the places to be found along it, which has come down to us.
Most of the place names in Britain and their modern locationss have been accepted since before I. Margary's Roman Roads in Britain appeared in it's final edition (which has a useful discussion of the Itinera in the appendix).
According to Margary the Roman mile, milia passuum, (m.p.) was equivalent to about 1,680 yards - a little less than the current statute mile of 1,760 yards.
