List of Rosa species - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some species are so similar that they could easily be considered variations of a single species, while other species show enough variation that they could easily be considered to be different species.
Lists of rose species usually show between 100 and 150 with most botanists agreeing that the actual number is probably nearer the lower end of that range.

The species form a group of generally thorny shrubs or climbers, and sometimes trailing plants, reaching 2–5 m tall, rarely reaching as high as 20 m by climbing over other plants.
The leaves of most species are 5–15 cm long, pinnate, with (3–) 5–9 (–13) leaflets and basal stipules; the leaflets usually have a serrated margin, and often a few small thorns on the underside of the stem.
The phrase sub rosa or "under the rose", means to keep a secret—derived from the ancient Roman practice of placing a wild rose on the door of a room in which a confidential discussion or meeting was being held.

Species that reproduce without meiosis or mitosis so that each generation is genetically identical to the previous generation.
Moreover, boundaries between species are often fuzzy: there are examples where members of one population can produce fertile offspring with a second population, and members of the second population can produce fertile offspring with members of a third population, but members of the first and third population cannot produces fertile offspring.

 Massachusetts List of Endangered
"Special concern" (SC) species are native species which have been documented by biological research or inventory to have suffered a decline that could threaten the species if allowed to continue unchecked, or which occur in such small numbers or with such restricted distribution or specialized habitat requirements that they could easily become threatened within Massachusetts.
Organization of the List - The list is generally organized according to the relationship of the listed species as determined by the science of taxonomy, which groups and categorizes species that are similar on the basis of shared evolutionary descent.
A species name index is provided after the list at 321 CMR 10.61 to assist the reader in finding species on the list.

Rhode Island Invasive Species Council's List of Invasive Plants    (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
Once the criteria were established, a preliminary list of 143 plants was drawn up from invasive species lists from Rhode Island and neighboring states, and people were asked to rank the degree of invasiveness of each plant.
The Rhode Island Invasive Species Council includes members of the nursery industry who are, understandably, concerned that we fully understand the invasive potential—or lack thereof—of various cultivars and hybrids of a species before including a species on a list that will be disseminated to the general public.
The species of greatest concern to the nursery industry are Norway Maple, Japanese Barberry, Winged Euonymus, and some of the bush honeysuckles such as Morrow Honeysuckle and Bella Honeysuckle, all of which meet Criteria 1 through 9, and are widespread in the state.
