Navy ships will often man the rails when entering a port, or when returning to the ship's homeport at the end of a deployment.
When a ship is full-dressed, in addition to the ensigns, a "rainbow" of signal flags is displayed from bow to stern over the mastheads, or as nearly so as the construction of the ships permits.
Ships not under way are dressed from 0800 to sunset; ships under way do not dress until they come to anchor during that period.

Royal Navy "Q" Ships - U93 Meets HMS Prize
A sailing ship flying Swedish colours was on the horizon about three miles away, this was the Prize nearing the end of her patrol area.
At 8.45pm Sanders ordered the ship to be steered (put her head to the wind) into the wind so as to slow the Prize, to enable the 'panic crew to get away safely.
Von Spiegel could see that the Prize was in sinking condition and was collecting details of the ship Sanders held his fire, waiting for the precise moment, his unexampled courage and iron nerve held until he was satisfied that this was the moment he was waiting for.

The ship was build on Wearside in the North of England and launched in 1864 from the yard of W. Pile, Hay and Co. of Sunderland.
By 1991, the ship was in dire straits and at risk of total loss, and, through a very large scale operation, was salvaged and removed in 1992 to Irvine, the headquarters of the Scottish Maritime Museum, for preservation and future restoration as a static exhibit.
During that period, the ship, which the Museum planned to restore as a static floating display at a cost of £5.4 million, has had minimal restoration work done with all of the efforts being towards simply preserving what is widely regarded as one of the UK's most significant 19th Century ships still in existence.

I have also tried to list a number which allows for easy dice-rolling; some of the names are not as common as others, but were included to round out the list.
This is similar to English schemes, especially Royal Navy schemes in which all ships of a single class have names beginning with, for example, L. Therefore, I will suggest names for whole classes, rather than single vessels.
However, in real Chinese, the ships in a class will usually be named after the first ship in the class, so don't take the class name suggestions too seriously.
