Martin, who was born in the Uk but lives in Australia, holding dual nationality, has been part of the gliding scene for more than 50 years, has flown some one hundred different types of sailplanes, including twenty featured in the book, and has that rare gift of being able to write with simplicity.
He isn’t new to authorship or journalism with some good titles and articles to his name, but this is the finest of books and he and the publisher have given us permission to print some extracts over the next few months so that readers will get a taste of the content.

 Getting Started in R/C Sailplanes
Good choices for a beginner's sailplane have always been planes that have around 2 meter (about 78 inches) or shorter wing spans and use only rudder and elevator for controls (2 channels).
I've built and flown the Chrysalis from DJ Aerotech, originally, I was thinking this as a beginner model, but after numerous hours in the air and rethinking the construction and radio installation, I really can't recommend the Chrysalis as a beginner model.
If the sailplane isn't balanced properly, it just won't fly right or worse yet you may not have any control after the plane leaves your hand.

What's New with The Incomplete Guide to Airfoil Usage
The new listing is from information in the reports John gave me. These airfoils are really the same as those listed before, but now the designations are those actually used by Messerschmitt.
At the suggestion of John MacMasters, I have now listed the Boeing 367-80 (707), B-47 and B-52 by both the BAC airfoils numbers and the NACA designations for the airfoils (to keep his name clear, I should note that he didn't supply me with the information, just the suggestion).

JR XP8103 Transmitter Review, by VA3AVR
One really nice feature of the 8103 is the "List Mode," which displays all of the functions available on the screen so there's no need to press buttons repeatedly until the desired menu appears, as on some other radios.
One little idiosyncrasy of the 8103 is that to move "up" in the list of functions, you press the DN (down) key and vice versa, but you get used to it after a while.
The Sailplane Mode of the 8103 contains the sailplane functions one needs to control a competition model with four wing servos, and a conventional or V-tail.
