For a genuine Sikh prefix and suffix are meaningless, people who are not sure of their identity use a prefix and suffix.
In your article you mentioned, "Sikhs invariably don't write on other religions in a critical fashion." With the impact that religious fundamentalists have had at the start of the 21st century perhaps it is time for change.
I am a Sikh, granted not an Amritdhari member of the Khalsa but I believe it is a decision everyone needs to make for him or herself; it is a sacred covenant which not everyone is ready for.

NEW DELHI: Sharing concern over the plight of Indian prisoners in Pakistan, Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam Tuesday asked the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to furnish him with a list of Sikhs jailed in that country without trial, SGPC chief avtar Singh Makkar said.
The Indian President also asked for a list of people languishing in Punjab jails without trial since their imprisonment during the unrest in the state, Makkar told after meeting Kalam at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
"We will be submitting the lists with his office within a couple of days," the SGPC chief said.
