Timex Sinclair 1000 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Timex Sinclair 1000 (TS1000) was the first computer produced by Timex Sinclair, a joint-venture between Timex Corporation and Sinclair Research.
The TS1000 was a slightly modified Sinclair ZX81 with an NTSC RF modulator instead of a UK PAL device and the onboard RAM doubled to two kilobytes.
It was followed by an improved version, the Timex Sinclair 1500.

A Sinclair QL The computer used a Motorola 68008 processor running at 7.5 MHz, came with 128 KB of RAM, and could be connected to a monitor or TV for display.
The QL was plagued by a number of problems from release, particularly bugs in the QDOS operating system ROM, which lead to multiple releases of the firmware.
Sinclair's persistence with the non-standard Microdrive and uncomfortable keyboard did not endear it to the business market; coupled with the machine's resemblance to a Sinclair Spectrum, they led many to perceive the QL as something akin to a toy.

The Sinclair QL was announced on January 12 1984, shortly before the Apple Macintosh actually went on sale. This was a new computer, to be aimed at the business market and costing £399.

Timex Sinclair 2068 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Timex Sinclair 2068 (TS2068), released in November 1983, was Timex Sinclair's fourth and last home computer for the U.S. market.
It derived from the 48K ZX Spectrum, and followed Timex's ZX81-based TS1000 and TS1500, and a 16K 2068 version TS2048.
Arguably one of the first Sinclair clones to significantly improve on the original design, it added a number of new features:

Sir Clive Sinclair (or Uncle Clive as he was affectionately known) got into making computers in the late 70s when he offered the Mk 14 kit computer to electronic enthusiasts.
In 1985 everything began to go wrong for Sinclair as he lost his fortune developing the C5 electric car and the ill-fated QL computer.
Sinclair also made the QL which was meant for "serious" use.

Sinclair ZX Spectrum Home Computer - New Hardware and repairs.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-10)
The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Computer has to be one of the best known and most liked home computers ever produced (although PC's with Windows have become the only computer readily available to the home user, they do not remain as popular as the Spectrum).
Unfortunately, Sinclair decided to steer clear of disk drives, which were very expensive at the time and the microdrives never really enjoyed a great deal of popularity as the tapes were easily damaged and fairly unreliable.
Originally, the ZX Spectrum could only connect to Sinclair's ZX Printer, or later compatible printers, which connected direct to the Spectrum's expansion port and printed on heat sensitive (silver) paper by the means of fine wires which heated up to burn an image on the paper.

This range of home computers practically started the home computing revolution—Clive Sinclair (not sir yet) gave people an affordable computer under 100 quid, surpasing the costly chipset performing graphics, sound and I/O functions with a single, custom made chip, known as the ULA, the blessing and curse of the Speccy community ever since.
Many clones were manufactured as well as hacked together by hobbyists all over the world, starting with the licenced US based Timex, expanded versions were built by Amstrad after the company took over the Sinclair Research.
Most of the clones were however built without license like Didaktik (Czechoslovakia/Slovakia), extended versions Pentagon and Scorpion (USSR/Russia), Speccy-based projects apeared even in the UK (Sam Coupé) but also in Russia (Sprinter).

The initial 8MHz 68000 was actually a 32 bit architecture internally, but had only a 16 bit data bus and 24 bit address bus to fit in a 64 pin package (address and data shared a bus in the 40 pin packages of the 8086 and Z-8000).
Later the 68008 reduced the data bus to 8 bits and address to 20 bits (very slow and not used for much - the cheap and quirky Sinclair QL being the most prominent), and the 68020 was fully 32 bit externally.
Due to its popularity, the 80x86 line has been the most widely cloned processors, from the NEC V20/V30 (slightly faster clones of the 8088/8086 (could also run 8085 code)), AMD and Cyrix clones of the 80386 and 80486, to versions of the Pentium within less than two years of its introduction.
