The mission of the United States Air Forces in Europe was to disarm and destroy all Luftwaffe air assets, dispose of excess USAAF property remaining in Europe, and provide airlift to remaining U.S. troops.

Existing air bases in the Munich area were deemed too vulnerable to Soviet attack so new bases were constructed at Bitburg, Hahn, Pferdsfeld, Ramstein/Landstuhl, Sembach and Spandahlem and were in use by the mid 1950s.

In 1941, the Army Air Corps became a part of the new U.S. Army Air Forces and the GHQ Air Force was redesignated the subordinate Air Forces Combat Command.

Air Force personnel assigned to honor guard duties wear, for dress occasions, a modified version of the standard service dress uniform, but with silver trim on the sleeves and trousers, with the addition of medals, sword belt, wheel cap with silver trim and AF Symbol, and a silver shoulder cord.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) (Urdu: پاک فضائیہ (Pakistan Faza'ya) is the Aviation branch of the Pakistan armed forces.
During the 1990s the Pakistan Air Force strived for alternative sources for its new generation fighter requirement (which was supposed to be filled by the F-16); the French Dassault Mirage 2000-5 was chosen but was too expensive to obtain.
For the replacement of Crotale short to medium-range SAMs the Pakistan Air Force is negotiating with Italy for the Spada-2000 short to medium-range SAM system; although Pakistan's relations with Europe have been mixed, Pak-Italian relations have been quite strong in the recent years, especially in the field of avionics.

On Oct. 11, 1961, President Kennedy directed, in NSAM 104, that the Defense Secretary “introduce the Air Force ‘Jungle Jim’ Squadron into Vietnam for the initial purpose of training Vietnamese forces.” The 4400th was to proceed as a training mission and not for combat at the present time.
As additional Air Force units were sent to Vietnam, 2nd ADVON was deactivated and replaced by 2nd Air Division of 13th Air Force.
It is the heritage of the air commandos.
