Star Trek: The Next Generation (also known as ST:TNG or TNG) is a science fiction television series set in the Star Trek universe.
By the time TNG was produced, the term "Trekkies" had come to imply a certain nerdy fanaticism among fans and was considered pejorative by some, in spite of the fact that it was coined by creator Gene Roddenberry himself, with no such negative connotations.
Barrett (wife of Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry), has also been the voice of the ship's computer in most Trek incarnations, and was Nurse Chapel in the original series, as well as the unnamed first officer in the first pilot of the original series, "The Cage".

Ex Astris Scientia - Religion in Star Trek
TNG: "The Chase", also produced after Roddenberry's death, seems to unify all the anti-religious and pro-scientific efforts in a way that none of the various humanoid species is a divine creation, although the outcome that an ancient race is actually responsible makes it at least as mystical.
Star Trek frequently shows that there is someone or something indeed, only that this is always a "false god" that would not deserve to be worshipped.
Star Trek itself has discussed spiritual issues without a reference to a god countless times, it is full of spirituality that just pretends to be of profane scientific nature.
