This is one of the few Star Trek novels that was incredibly true to the spirit of both Roddenberry and the characters, while creating a situation where the reader can experience an old character in a new way.
The author is Star Trek veteran David Gerrold, who by this time had already written scripts for the series ("The Trouble With Tribbles") and the animated series ("The Pirates of Orion") as well as written a book about the series, with both praise and criticism ("The World of Star Trek").

The second of three linking novels, it follows Frank Vanderwal, a minor character in Forty Signs of Rain, and his colleagues at the National Science Foundation who think that a new Ice Age may be coming.

A new opening title graphic adding the words "Star Trek" to "Enterprise" will be seen for the first time in the season's third episode, "Extinction." UPN has recently run promos using "Star Trek" above the title to reinforce the show's association with the franchise.
John Logan, the screenwriter of "Star Trek Nemesis," is reportedly in talks to pen the script for a new Tom Cruise movie called "The Few," according to Daily Variety.
Also getting attention this week is Malcolm McDowell ("Tolian Soran" in "Star Trek Generations") for his part in the Robert Altman-directed "The Company," a movie about the world of ballet starring Neve Campbell.

Unlike DC Comics' Star Trek series a few years later, which often employed multi-issue stories and continuing sub-plots, Marvel's early '80s version tended to go for self contained, one issue stories (though there was one or two two-parters).
Star Trek: Debt of Honor, in the lexicon of the genre, is basically just a bug-hunt.
In that sense, perhaps it's intended as another fan dream made flesh: a "Star Trek meets the critters from the Alien movies" story (Chris Claremont was obviously deeply affected by the Alien movies, going by some of his X-Men stories from the early '80s).
