  IDEOLOGY
Since Syria is for the Syrians and the Syrians are a complete nation endowed with the right to sovereignty, it follows that this nation's cause, that is its life and destiny, belongs to her alone and is independent from any other cause that involves interests other than those of the Syrian people.
These are the natural boundaries of the Syrian homeland which has housed the elements of the Syrian nation and provided them with the basis of their lives and the opportunity of contact and collision, then mixture and fusion which resulted in the formation of the distinct character of the Syrian nation.
It is instructive to examine briefly the list of Syrians mentioned by Saadeh as illustrative of the contributions of Syria to human civilization.

Chapter 10 goes on list descendants of Shem, noting that he was ancestor of Eber (Heber: Luke 3:35), the founder of the Hebrew race.

Terrorism as a Preferred Instrument of Syrian Policy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
An integral part of the Syrian regime's 'Modus Operandi' in its use of the “terror weapon”, is the use of the Syrian, Arab and Western media in attempting to justify terrorism and repudiate the allegations that Syria is a country which lends patronage to terrorism.
The Syrians also justify and defend the existence of terror organizations which publicly declare their goal to be the destruction of Israel and its citizens and not just the “liberation” of a certain piece of territory.
The Syrians, however, are careful not to take an active and direct part in the everyday details of the terror attacks and the daily ongoing activities of the terrorist organizations, as long as it serves their political objectives.

Terrorism as a Preferred Instrument of Syrian Policy
Later, two Syrian intelligence officers were expelled by the French from the Syrian embassy in Paris); the killing of Issam Sartawi, a PLO official who initiated dialogue with Israel, was carried out in Portugal by a gunman belonging to the Abu-Nidal group, apparently on behalf of the Syrians.
In contrast to the Syrians' deep involvement in the terrorist actions which were carried out in the 1970s and '80s by the Palestinian groups, their involvement in Hezbollah’s ongoing activity has been indirect and vague, and therefore also more difficult to prove.
Thus, for example, the Syrians encourage Hezbollah to refrain from firing Katyusha rockets at Israel as part of its ongoing confrontation with the IDF in southern Lebanon within the framework of the “Grapes of Wrath” understandings as well as their basic interest in preventing a deterioration of the situation.
