The port numbers associated with these services generally have the same value as those used for UDP services (a full list of all port numbers is provided in the reference at the end of this page).
To implement the service, TCP uses a number of protocol timers that ensure reliable and synchronised communication between the two End Systems.

The well-known port numbers are the port numbers that are reserved for assignment by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for use by the application end points that communicate using the Internet's Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or the User Datagram Protocol (UDP).
The IANA list of port numbers, including the well-known port numbers, is still apparently the most complete list.
The well-known port numbers are also listed as part of the IETF's Request for Comments (RFC) 1700, "Assigned Numbers."

It was believed that this would lead to confusion, so with very few exceptions, the same port number is shown in the list for the same application for both TCP and UDP.
The other problem with this document is that it shows the same port number as reserved for both TCP and UDP for an application.
Each port number is assigned a short keyword, with a brief description of the protocol that uses it.

The registered port numbers are the port number s that companies and other users register with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ( ICANN) for use by the applications that communicate using the Internet's Transmission Control Protocol ( TCP) or the User Datagram Protocol ( UDP).
The IANA list of port numbers, including the registered port numbers, is still apparently the most complete list.
They follow in sequence the well-known port numbers, which are, in most cases, applications that can only be started by privileged users, such as the Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTP) and Post Office Protocol Version 3 ( POP3) applications.

 Webopedia: Well-Known TCP Port Numbers
In TCP/IP and UDP networks, a port is an endpoint to a logical connection and the way a client program specifies a specific server program on a computer in a network.
Some ports have numbers that are preassigned to them by the IANA, and these are known as well-known ports (specified in RFC 1700).
Port numbers range from 0 to 65536, but only ports numbers 0 to 1024 are reserved for privileged services and designated as well-known ports.

If the access list rejects the address, the software discards the packet and returns an ICMP Host Unreachable message.
The message is generated for the first packet that matches, and then at 5-minute intervals, including the number of packets permitted or denied in the prior 5-minute interval.
