tvdvdreviews.com -- The Simpsons: The Complete First Season DVD Review
In fact, the show's pilot, a Christmas special entitled "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" (Dec. 17, 1989), is one of the most adeptly executed, and it aired prior to the official premier of the series in January 1990.
An ongoing theme of the audio commentary is "we didn't know what we were doing," and you can see what they mean, especially in terms of the technical details and tone.
Included are both the episode unembellished, and the outtakes screened with the stunned, aghast commentary of its creators (many of whom haven't seen these clips in more than 13 years).

But the difference between this and Another Simpsons Clip Show is that it is not clip-after-clip, it starts with a real storyline, and the clips are interlinked with the great "singing family" parts, which for me makes this episode watchable.
This episode portrays The Simpsons as a live action show, which just opens the door for a realm of possibilities, most of which are fulfilled.
But the main takeaway from this episode is that this extraordinary series about a dysfunctional family of five yellow-skinned characters can still be so good after 300 episodes...

The Simpsons is the longest-running animated television series in television history, with 16 seasons and 354 episodes since its debut on December 17, 1989 on the Fox Network.
The Simpsons sports a huge array of secondary characters. The show's basic premise centers on the antics of the family: Homer and Marge, and their children Bart, Lisa and Maggie as well as their pets Santa's Little Helper – the dog – and Snowball II – the cat.
All episodes (with the exception of one) list only the voice actors (not the characters they voice) in keeping with the mystique of having the audience not associate any one character with an actor--this is to discourage the audience from easily identifying exactly which voice actor did what.

Popular culture, in the form of the episodes from The Simpsons, provide an introduction to and extended exploration of the literary techniques that are commonly used in satire.
After the episode concludes, arrange the class into small groups to discuss their observations and draw conclusions about the comment or criticism made about the themes that are satirized.
The essay should include a summary of the episode, an explanation of the main comment or criticism the episode is making, and identify three different examples of satirical elements used in the episode.

In yet another episode, Itchy and Scratchy were substituted with "Eastern Europe's favorite cat and mouse team, Worker and Parasite." Itchy and Scratchy were originally intended only to parody Tom and Jerry, but their cartoon shorts proved very popular and became a regular part of the show.
The first was in 1998 in the episode Trash of the Titans, during the song "The Garbage Man." The second was in 2000 in the episode Missionary: Impossible, in which Homer defrauds a PBS member station during pledge week.

 The Simpsons
For everyone at ''The Simpsons,'' the family remains the center of gravity: sitcom archetypes who convene for our benefit every Sunday evening on their living-room couch, just as we find ourselves on ours.
The new episodes will be the product of that vanished time, and as such they may evoke nostalgia or discomfort in ways the writers could never have anticipated.

Fans accustomed to the slick appearance of the later episodes will be delighted by the rougher nature of these earlier episodes, when the characters weren't as well defined (Homer isn't quite as dumb as he is in later seasons) and the animation was still evolving.
The other seasons also have notable episodes such as from Season two, Three Men and a Comic-Book, in which, Bart and his friends Millhouse and Martin save up their money to buy a valuable Comic-Book and end up trying to kill eatch other when they are unable to share it between them.
Episodes like Krusty Gets Busted, Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire, Bart The Genius, The Crepes Or Wrath, The Call Of The Simpsons, Some Enchanted Evening, and Homer's Night Out are some of my all-time favorite Simpsons episodes, and probably some of the best they've made.

Broadcast in 1991, the third season of The Simpsons contains a host of candidates for "Best Simpsons Episode Ever." Homer is in such good form throughout that a reasonable case can be made that he has superseded the importance of his Greek namesake in the annals of culture and civilization.
Other standout episodes include "Like Father, Like Clown," in which Krusty reveals he is estranged from his Rabbi father; this is The Simpsons at the height of its powers, mature, ironic, erudite, and touching while bristling with slapstick and Bart-inspired cheek.
The most represenative of the season three episodes, "Homer at the bat", displays the burgeoning hold on American culture as the eminence and ubitiquous nature of the show helped to bring in the vocal talents of a plethora of baseball greats, such as Cooperstown bound Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs.

 Special Zeo theme - RangerBoard
Does the theme in those episodes have like weird and random lighting sounds and is a little longer than the regular theme?
I do believe it is something legitamate from Saban and not an amateur editing job; it sounds too good, and it's devoid of dialogue or sound from episodes during portions of the music that were never heard outside of actual episodes (not even on the Turbo and BOPR CDs).
I suspect that there is only one long recording made for each PR theme which then serves as the single source recording that they edit in various ways to produce shorter opening credits themes, instrumental end credits themes, etc. and that this "special" Zeo theme is just that.
