This American Life (TAL) is a weekly hour-long radio program produced by WBEZ in Chicago and distributed by Public Radio International.
One notable mention is a remake of the Elton John song "Rocket Man" that was produced for the "Classifieds" episode [1] and released as an MP3.
Two 2-disc CD sets collecting some of the producers' favorite acts have been released: Lies, Sissies, and Fiascoes was released on May 4, 1999, and Crimebusters and Crossed Wires was released on November 11, 2003.

Van Cleve's book is a memoir of life spent with the military first as the daughter of a military officer, Major Nathan Clark, and later as the wife of another officer, Horatio Phillips Van Cleve, who served in the Union Army with the Second Minnesota Infantry and rose to the rank of General.
She recalls her childhood memories of life at the fort: the rudimentary schooling she received there, her encounters with Indians, the excitement of communications with the East, and all the rigors associated with frontier life.
There are also papers discussing the American settlement of Ottawa County, read in honor of the county's semi- centennial celebration, with attention to the area's soil and climate, pioneer settlements and fruit culture, commerce and ship-building, early newspapers and churches (Dutch, German, and English-speaking), and its medical and educational history.

 The "This American Life" Internship Application
I usually listen to This American Life episodes over the web rather than on the radio, and I normally avoid listening to episodes that don't look interesting based on the short descriptions on the website.
For an American studies seminar called "Drug Wars and Prohibition," for example, I wrote a twenty-page piece looking at different aspects of dextromethorphan hydrobromide, the active cough-suppressant ingredient in Robitussin (and other products) that happens to have psychedelic properties when taken in large enough doses.
To figure this out, I dug around in the Austin city archives, the University of Texas Center for American History document archives, and I even got a copy of Fuzz's college transcript and a copy of a UT course catalogue from 1932.
