Turkish folk music, is characterized by the culture of Turkish-speaking rural communities of Anatolia, the Balkans, and Middle East.
Musicians who were inspired by these movements started adapting folk music with contemporary sounds and arrangements, giving rise to Anatolian rock and protest music or özgün muzik (free music).
After the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the creation of a Turkish republic, the transfer of the former Mızıka-ı Hümayun (Imperial Orchestra) from İstanbul to the new capitol of the state Ankara, and renaming it as Riyaset-i Cumhur Orkestrası (Orchestra of the Presidency of the Republic) signalled a Westernization of Turkish music.

Many poor turkish people had difficulties in turkey and decided years ago to move and keep old mentality but european think that all are like this and when european or other decide to move in turkey all say wouwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww we never meet beautiful people like this !!!!

A varied group of musicians -- from Russell Simmons to Lou Reed -- have joined forces with the antiwar group Win Without War to voice their continuing disenchantment with the Bush administration's policy on Iraq.
The group didn't give specifics on what they plan to do to voice their protest, although Talking Heads lead singer David Byrne said the group is in discussions with publications to continue their ad campaign, hoping to reach different audiences.
The group provided a long list of musicians who are taking part, including Rosanne Cash, R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe, Dave Matthews, Peter Gabriel and Suzanne Vega.
