Bristol International Airport (IATA: BRS, ICAO: EGGD) is the main commercial airport serving the city of Bristol and the surrounding area in England, UK.
During WWII, Bristol Airport was the only civil airport still in operation in the UK, meaning all flights usually bound for London were terminated in Bristol.
In 1955 a new airport was built at Lulsgate Bottom Airfield — an RAF base.

 British Military Airfield Histories
Not only were these airfields occupied by the British R.A.F and Navy but also by the Americans, the Canadians, plus many of our other wonderful allies who came from the four corners of the earth to help us during WW2.
With 790 airfields or seaplane bases covered in this project it is not possible to portray them here, so if you have an interest in a particular airfield(s) and require a copy of its brief history, then get in touch with me via E Mail.
The list of airfields starts with Abbots Bromley and ends with Zeals (pictured left and right above) but note that pictures are not included in the histories although a sketch map of the layout in most cases is. Each history is restricted to a maximum of two pages of A4 due to space limitations.

 Hamble's Airfields
Although Hamble has long been associated with aviation, it is not generally known that there were two airfields, one to the north and the other south of Hamble Lane.
The airfield was becoming unsuitable for some aircraft so, in 1926, land was purchased to the north of Verdon Avenue, extending to the Portsmouth - Southampton railway line.
The airfield was now used only by aircraft undergoing repair, and a detachment of Blackburn Sharks from HMS Raven at Eastleigh, which arrived earlier in the year.

Just visible from the museum across the runway of the airfield is a small hill; this is North Berwick Law, which marks the position of the seaside town of North Berwick quite nicely if you fancy taking the family to the beach after visiting the museum.
