		The University of Southern California is well known for its professional schools in communication, law, dentistry, medicine, business, engineering, journalism, public policy, and architecture, as well as for its School of Cinema-Television.
		The University of Southern California is one of a small number of premier research institutions on which the nation depends for a steady stream of new knowledge, art and technology.
		USC is often identified as "Southern Cal" by the media, much to the chagrin of the school's sports information department, which specifically requests in every media guide that the school not be referred to as "Southern Cal" in order to avoid association with the University of California, Berkeley (known as "Cal").
