	Database of British Hills: about the list
		We are not the first to collate the lists into a single database, but by putting our version in the public domain we hope to save other hillgoers the effort of compiling their own.
		The other listed summits do not make a strong case for being given a separate identity and are given in the RHB update as examples (not a complete list) of hills with two or more nearby points of apparently equal height.
		We mention that the task of producing a definitive list of summits is far from straightforward because of the many occasions when the location of Wainwright's summit is not coincident with the highest point in the vincinity.

		Wainwright had some odd ideas about what constituted a hill/summit and he wasn't helped by the errors on the Maps he used.
		It so happens that the LDWA has just persuaded one of its members (Stephen Walker) to produce a GR list of the Wainwrights but I have yet to actually plots the positions he uses.
		Stephens "rules" include "The Hills are as high as Wainwright said" and "The fell tops are where Wainwright said they were".

		The hills section contains a complete list of the Wainwrights, Munro's and the Welsh 100, though I must admit that I am not certain that the Munro list is complete, each time I pick up a magazine it seems that another one has been added to it.
		Well the truth is a "Wainwright" is a hill or mountain that Alfred Wainwright wrote about and sketched in great detail in his guidebooks "Pictorial Guides To The Lakeland Fells".
		This section was originally intended to have a list of scrambles in the Lake District along with the Scramblers Code and also the routes that we have taken up the scrambles, however I got to thinking what if someone followed our route and got into difficulties or worse still came to any harm.

	Peakbagging
		I use 4 different list; Hewitts, Wainwrights, Marilyns and county tops (still not updated for the various local government re-organisations of the 1990s).
		The worst example was when I did 14 Wainwrights in 3 days in 9 different walks (including the one when I failed to get up through a mixture of fatigue and inclement weather) There were pleasures in this but overall there was a feeling of guilt and pleasure diminished.
		I've finished the Wainwright list now and I have to say that it was a bit of a millstone right at the end.

		There are 214 hills mentioned in his guidebooks that constitute the ‘Wainwrights’ and so far I have walked up 62 of them.
		I would not recommend that you rely solely on Wainwright's books now, since they are out of date, but they do give a wonderful introduction and show the writer's deep love of the mountains in a way that most guidebooks can only imitate.

		I have always enjoyed reading Wainwrights writing as he is very funny.
