 List of Washington State Routes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Odd-numbered routes stretch from U.S. Route 101 (functionally a State Route 1) in the west to State Route 31 in the east.
The two child routes of State Route 9 are State Route 92 and State Route 96, as three-digit numbers beginning with 90 are in use by Interstate 90.
For instance, Primary State Highway 1 was the Pacific Highway (present Interstate 5), and Secondary State Highway 1B was a spur from Bellingham to the Canadian border (now State Route 539).

In Washington State, which is by no means the worst culprit, very large portions of US 12, WA 18, WA 522, and US 395 are being turned into freeways.
Washington State Highways are numbered with even-numbered highways running east-west and odd-numbered highways running north-south.
Primary highways have one or two digits and are numbered beginning in the southwest and increasing north and east.

 Michigan Highways: Unsigned State Trunklines List
Where the new highway diverges from the old, the old pavement is obliterated, however old M-84 remains in service between Kloha and Amelith as a connecting local roadway retained as an unsigned/old state trunkline route as OLD M-84.
This unsigned/old state trunkline was the route along Grand River Ave in Detroit was formerly the route of M-16 into the city from the northwest until 1926, the route of US-16 from 1926-1962 and then was designated BS I-96 from 1962 until 1977.
This segment of unsigned/old state trunkline is one of a pair of OLD M-99 routings between Hillsdale and Jonesville resulting from the improvement of M-99 between those communities in the mid-1970s.

The State levies a motor vehicle excise tax on the privilege of using a motor vehicle in the state.
Initiative 601, enacted by the voters in the 1993 general election, created a state expenditure limit and, with certain exceptions, requires that revenues received in excess of the limit be placed in reserve accounts and not spent.
The allocation to the state general fund would be reduced from 57.644% to 13.573% through June 30, 1999, and after that date would be entirely eliminated.
