Western fiction is a genre of literature that is typically set in any of the American states west of the Mississippi River and between the years of approximately 1860 and 1900.
The Western got its start in the "penny dreadfuls" and later the "dime novels" that first began to be published in the mid-nineteenth century.
Meanwhile, non-American Authors like the German Karl May picked up the genre, went to full novel length, and made it hugely popular and successful in continental Europe from about 1880 on, though they were generally dismissed as trivial by the literary critics of the day.

 Fiction
Authors of nonfiction generally come out and say what they have on their minds.
Fiction can be true, however, only in the sense that the actions or behaviors "ring true" with what we know of the world.
The content of fiction may take the form of the events of a story, especially in novels and short stories, spoken remarks, especially in drama, or images and symbols, especially in poetry.

 Authors :: Western
An author is the person who creates a written work, such as a book, story, article or the like, whether short or long, fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, technical or literature.
The death of the author is in self-conscious opposition to the New Criticism, a literary critical movement popular in England and America in the first half of the 20th century.
According to this movement, the author's intent is assumed to be quite clear to the author and it becomes the critic's task to understand this intent.

 Western (genre) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The popular perception of the Western is a movie that centres on the life of a semi-nomadic wanderer, usually a cowboy or a gunfighter, whose possessions include a canteen; period clothing that might include a large Stetson hat, a bandanna, spurs and buckskins; a revolver or rifle; and a saddle, but not necessarily a horse.
This minor Western classic is a gritty, unromanticized study of the individual against the world, of a lone horse breeder in a region on the verge of statehood, yet where the law is in flux and for sale to the highest bidder.
Westerns from the United States were popular in Communist countries, and were a particular favorite of Joseph Stalin.

 Interview with John C. Wright, author of The Golden Age
Science fiction is the mythology of the scientific world-view; fantasy is the wishful rejection of the scientific world-view, nostalgia for the magic of the age before the age of reason.
Likewise, a tale is science fiction when it is set in the future, or in outer space, and concerns itself primarily with the things and people particular to the scientific world view (such as Spacemen and Martians).
Science fiction will die out as a form of genre writing when (if ever) the common man is no longer intrigued by the notion that the future will differ from the past.
