 | | But in the last quarter of a century we have clearly seen a tremendous increase in the number of Shakespearean films as well as the desire to interpret and reinterpret for our age, the political, artistic, economic, technological, and sociological realities thematically found in the plays of Shakespeare. |
 | | Working with both film and television adaptations and more textually close interpretations, the seminar participants will select from a wide range of Shakespearean films and analyze themes, interpretations, and depictions of race, past and present ideals of ethics, class, gender, the family, war, friendship, surveillance, and alienation. |
 | | Films will be made available through my reserve list in the library as well as through the downtown Public Library’s extensive collections of Shakespearean films on the 4th floor (I will be responsible for getting those films and returning them). |
