 Holdings - Royal Canadian Navy
For example, "Arctic" might not contain titles that have been, perhaps arbitrarily, classified as biography, design, discovery, whaling, etc. "Navy" generally does not contain titles that are specific to the Royal Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy (Dept of National Defense), or the United States Navy.
The following represents a partial list of our holdings in the above category, and is limited to books (manuscripts, logs, periodicals, artwork, charts, etc are not included).

 Royal Navy: Sail - Swords
The rating of Leading Stoker was introduced into the Royal Navy in 1842; Stoker-and-Coal-Trimmer in 1844; Second Class Stoker and Coal Trimmer in 1860 (this became "Second Class Stoker" in 1864); Chief Stoker appeared in 1964 but ceased at the end of 1868 on the introduction in 1869 of the rating of Engine Room artificer.
It is used occasionally, as slang, in the Navy referring to the Commanding Officer; in the Royal Navy Reserve it is a title of rank.
The same rule applies in the French navy; the Marine Nationale found it necessary in 1934 to issue a memorandum to this effect: at the same time they established rules for the gender of the definite article to be used.

 Royal Navy: Table - Twill
Originally tacitly regarded as for wear by naval officers only, nowadays the Navy Tie may often be seen round the necks of naval ratings in plain clothes, and of others whose connection with the Royal Navy is vague.
Soon after this, tinned tobacco was introduced in the Navy for issue to those men who preferred this to leaf tobacco; again the older sailors implied that this was only fit for use by 'Ticklers' who were not long enough at sea to learn the art of chewing leaf tobacco.
The generally accepted "navy" tie - often known in the ward room as a "Gieves Old Boys" tie - is of navy blue with a red and white (1/8" red, 1/16" white) stripe running diagonally across it at 2?" intervals.

Lee Maritime Books - Naval & Royal Navy Books
Having already seen action in China during the Boxer Uprising, Keyes at the age of 32, became the youngest captain in the Royal Navy, and by the outbreak of war in 1914, was senior naval officer at Harwich.
It describes the efforts of the Royal Navy Coast Blockade for the Prevention of Smuggling, which was, under its original commander the doughty Captain William ("Flogging Joey") McCulloch RN, debatedly the most effective - and indubitably the most hated - preventative force of any age.
This book describes something of the spirit of the men and women who served in the Royal Navy between 1914 and 1939 and learn of their daily life in peace, war and civil unrest.

She is of 8,015 tons and measures 315 ft. by 62 ft., and is, in a sense, a modified Admiral, for the disposition of the armour is similar, though reduced in thickness from 18 in.
Although these two vessels, the Warspite and her sister ship, formed the subject of a lively controversy, they are generally accepted in the service as useful and effective ships.
