 Anti-aircraft
The earliest known use of weapons specifically for the anti-aircraft role appears to have occurred during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
As the aircraft started to be used in tactical roles against ground targets, these larger weapons proved too ponderous to aim at the quickly moving targets.
Soon the forces were adding various machine gun based weapons mounted on poles, and the British also introduced another new weapon based on their 1-pounder "pom-pom" (a 20mm belt-fed gun).

 Wikipedia: Gun
A gun is an aimable weapon that launches projectiles at high velocity, or a device that resembles such a weapon used for other purposes (e.g., glue gun).
Technically speaking, the projectile is the weapon and the gun is the weapon platform, although with the use of bayonets and rifle butts as clubs, the double usage of the word could be forgiven.
Artillery (A larger gun typically for battlefield use, firing larger projectiles, and often mounted on wheels or on a vehicle such as a tank, boat, or aircraft).

The Chance Vought F4U Corsair was a fighter aircraft that saw service in World War II and the Korean War.
It was a remarkable achievement for Vought, as carrier aircraft were necessarily heavier than their land-based counterparts to withstand the rigors of deck landings.
However, nearly as many Corsairs were lost to landing accidents as the type downed enemy aircraft; this is because its "visibility problems" actually made it a disaster waiting to happen on the ground.

A firearm is a weapon that fires either single or multiple projectiles propelled at high velocity by the gases produced through rapid, confined burning of a propellant.
A distinction is sometimes made between the projectile itself as the weapon and the firearm as a weapons platform.
The first "rapid firing" weapons were usually similar to the 19th-century Gatling gun, which would fire cartridges from a magazine as fast as and as long as the operator turned a crank.

Law Enforcement News (September 30) reports that the U.S. Army and the National Institute of Justice are running a $500,000 field test to see if EMP guns can force a car to stop by disabling its electrical systems.
The idea behind non-lethal weapons is to incapacitate the enemy without actually killing them, or, in the case of riot control or hostage situations, to disable the participants without permanent injury, preferably without their knowing it.
In other words, weapons that are barred from use against our country's worst enemies (notwithstanding the fact that the US did use this weapon against Iraqi troops!) can now be used against our own citizens by the local police departments against such groups as peaceful protestors of US nuclear policies.

The Waffenfabrik Mauser MG 151 was a 15 mm cannon later developed into the MG 151/20 (20 mm) which was widely used on many types of German fighter aircraft used in World War II.
The 15 mm weapon was experienced as having a lackluster performance as the main gun on the early Messerschmitt Bf 109 F series and was soon replaced by the 20 mm version to become the standard cannon for the F-4 series onwards until it was surpassed by the 30 mm MK 108 cannon.
Most Focke-Wulf Fw 190 also carried this gun as part of their main armament.
