 US Navy and US Marine Corps Aircraft Serial Numbers and Bureau Numbers--1911 to Present
In 1940, so many aircraft were being ordered as a result of President Franklin Roosevelt's rearmament program that it was found necessary to terminate the second series at 7303 in order to avoid confusion with aircraft having late numbers in the original series that were still in service.
Fixed wing aircraft belonging to VAW squadrons have numbers 60X that are painted maroon, although they are fairly rarely used.
Sometimes the aircraft are actually returned to active service, either as remotely-controlled drones or sold to friendly foreign governments, but most often they are scavenged for spare parts to keep other aircraft flying or are scrapped.

The aircraft was one of the first 200 Avengers delivered to the British, who called them Tarpons, and was assigned the number FN 859.
The data plate lists the aircraft as a TBF-1 and it bears the bulged observer windows, which are the most obvious mark of the British modifications.
Whether these wings were added in squadron use, as part of the service test at Patuxent River, or simply to make a complete aircraft for gate guardian duties is not known at this time.

 Royal Australian Navy Gun Plot RAN in the 1960s
During 1963-64, the R.A.N. began co-operating with the United States Navy in a type of underwater “weather forecasting” that contributes to the efficiency of submarine detection.
Supplementary list air crew training is continuing, and the first pilots trained since the re-introduction of the scheme in 1963 have obtained their wings.
The expanding Navy is also placing a heavier work load on the civilian staff of the Department of the Navy, demanding wider technical knowledge and increased skills.

Flagship of one of the greatest admirals in the world at one of the most significant sea battles for centuries – and still in pristine condition almost 250 years after she was built – Victory is a talisman for the Royal Navy, a spectacular symbol of a glorious tradition.
Her two masts hark back to the days of sail, and the open bridge wings owe as much to the bridge of the Warrior as to those of later designs, although the fortified conning tower below the bridge is a nod to the danger of explosive shells rather than broadsides of iron.
However, she was saved from the scrapyard and “enshrined on land” at Shirahama Beach in Yokosuka, close to the city’s naval base, in October 1926 – at the same time as HMS Victory was undergoing preservation in the UK.

 Naval Aviation in World War I
Aircraft of many types were produced, and one aircraft engine advanced from concept to mass production and operation.
Before the wings were issued, use of the letters "U.S.", which had been incorporated in the first design, was abandoned by order of 12 October 1917 and the design adopted was essentially that of the wings worn today.
Thus, wing and tail surfaces and in some instances the fuselage surfaces were to be aluminum-colored while the specified color for other exterior surfaces continued to be naval gray enamel.

The Future Carrier Borne Aircraft was thus renamed in May 2001 as the "Future Joint Combat Aircraft" (FJCA) to better reflect its status as a common Royal Navy/Royal Air Force (RN/RAF) aircraft capable of both sea- and land-based operations.
One wing of two "dark blue" squadrons (to be numbered 800 and 801) will have a majority of Royal Navy personnel, while there will be a second wing of two "light blue" squadrons (No.1(F) and IV squadrons, with No. 3 squadron disbanding) with a manning balance in favour of the RAF.
In this method aircraft take-off's are catapult-assisted, allowing very heavy payloads to be carried, while special arrestor gear equipment is used to halt fast moving landing aircraft in a relatively short distance.

 Airshow Venues - RIAT (RAF Fairford)
The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is a very large Airshow containing hundreds of modern military aircraft in the static line-up and air display from many different countries around the world.
The Royal International Air Tattoo, which takes place over the weekend of the 16-17 July 2005 at RAF Fairford, will host over 300 aircraft, including some of the greatest aerobatics display teams at the largest gathering of international air arms anywhere in the world.
Since 1971, the Tattoo has welcomed aircraft from 49 countries including Russia, Australia, Venezuela, Malaysia and the Ukraine and it is hoped that in 2005, RIAT will be able to announce the debut of the 50th nation to be welcomed into the RIAT family.

Like most other technologies during wartime, the aircraft underwent many improvements (though it might be argued that the most drastic changes occurred during the so-called "Golden Age of Flight" in the between-wars period of the 1920s and 1930s).
With limited power, aircraft engines could only afford a certain amount of weight and, though made of mostly canvas and wood, could only afford to be monoplanes (one-winged).
The former was a forward-firing aircraft with a propellor positioned in the rear of the plane, behind the pilot, allowing the gun to be accessible to the pilot for in-flight repair and reloading (this so-called "pusher" plane design enjoyed a brief period of popularity during 1914-1915).

A form was placed by each Russian aircraft model at the show so the entrants could on their models, what they added, what they liked or disliked about the projects, etc. The information provided by the modelers is combined with photos of their entries.

he aircraft was quite large for a single-seat fighter, with a cruciform tail and a tricycle landing gear.
This aircraft was assigned to the U.S. Navy, which tested it at the Test and Evaluation Center, Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland.
The other aircraft, with registration FE-1012 (later T2-1012), went to the USAAF at Freeman Field, Indiana, where it was tested in early 1946.

It's a large museum and there's a huge list of the aircraft that they've got, unfortunately it's arranged so that each letter of the alphabet has a separate page, making it slow and painful to move through the list.
The list of aircraft by designation is probably a better way of navigating around, but it's also arbitrarily split into multiple pages.
Ultimately, many of the museum's aircraft will be displayed at the Udvar-Hazy Center, due to open in December 2003 at Dulles Airport outside Washington DC.
