The SU-76 (Samokhodnaja Ustanovka 76) was a Soviet self-propelled gun used during World War II.
Its simple construction made it the most-produced Soviet armoured vehicle of World War II, except for the T-34 tank.
Although open battle compartment is highly vulnerable to rifle fire and hand grenades it very often saves crew's lives in the case of hit by hollow-shaped Panzerfaust projectile (for closed vehicle crew this hit was an imminent death).

Jagdpanther (Sd.Kfz.173), alternatively known as Panzerjaeger Panther, utilized the chassis of Pz.Kpfw.Panther Ausf.G, and the hull glacis and sides were extended upwards to form a fighting compartment.
Early production vehicles had a welded collar around the Pak 43, a monobloc main gun barrel, and two periscopes for the driver in the hull front plate.
Later vehicles came equipped with a stronger bolted collar, two-piece Pak 43 barrels, and one driver's periscope.
